Product Overview

ADR – Initial

Initial training for drivers transporting dangerous goods by road.

An ADR Certificate is required for any driver carrying dangerous goods by road — in road tankers, tank containers, in bulk, or in scope packages above the regulated quantity thresholds. Course attendance is a legal requirement, not a recommendation. It counts as part of drivers’ hours.

Smith System runs ADR Initial training as a DVSA approved course, with Qualifications Scotland (QS) administered assessments. Every instructor is individually DVSA-approved and has come from the industry they now train.

ADR – Initial - How does it work?

How does it work?

ADR Initial certification is built up by module: the modules a driver needs depend on the goods being carried and the form they’re carried in — packages, tankers, or both. Course length follows from the modules.

Candidates attend an approved course and sit Dangerous Goods Driver Training (ADR) examinations. Candidates are required to successfully complete the relevant ADR examinations, which are administered by Qualifications Scotland, in order to gain or renew their ADR Driver Training Certificate. The examinations are computer-based, multiple-choice assessments and are normally conducted at the end of the training course. We can advise on the right module combination for your operation. If you’re not sure which modules your drivers need, contact us before booking.

In-house delivery

For larger groups, in-house delivery at your operating centre keeps drivers close to the operation and reduces overall downtime. We bring the trainer to you and structure the programme around your shifts.
